X-ray Emission from Psr 0355+54
We have obtained a 20 ks observation of PSR 0355+54 using the ROSAT PSPC. The pulsar is detected with a count rate of 4:2(1:3) 10 ?3 s ?1 above the background. While the 70 source counts are insuucient for spectral tting, we have derived source parameters for speciic cases of power law as well as blackbody spectra. For a Crab-like spectrum (photon index = 2) we nd L x (0:1 ? 2:4 keV) = 1:0 10 3...
متن کاملDetection of pulsed X-ray emission from the binary millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232
We report the detection of pulsed X-ray emission from the binary millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232 in a 100 ks ROSAT HRI observation. The lightcurve deviates from a flat distribution at a ∼ 4.8σ level, showing a sharp main pulse with a duty cycle of ∼ 0.15 (350μs), compatible with smearing due to the scatter in the ROSAT clock calibration. The intrinsic width can be smaller than 100μs. There is...
متن کاملDetection of X – Ray Emission from the PSR 1259 – 63 / SS 2883 Binary System ∗
Nonpulsed but variable X-ray emission has been detected from the binary system containing the radio pulsar PSR 1259–63 during two pointed ROSAT observations, taken five months apart. This 47.7 ms radio pulsar is in a highly eccentric (2 ∼ .85) binary system with the 10 to 15 M ̄ Be star SS2883. It is the first radio pulsar found to be in a binary system with a massive main sequence companion; it...
متن کاملX-ray Emitting Qsos Ejected from Arp 220
Four compact ROSAT X-ray sources very close to the nearby ultraluminous infrared galaxy Arp 220 (IC 4553) have been identified as medium-redshift QSOs. The closest pair lying symmetrically across the galaxy have almost identical redshifts z = 1.25, 1.26. All of the evidence suggests that these QSOs have been ejected from Arp 220 and have large intrinsic redshifts.
متن کاملCorrelation between the TeV γ-ray and X-ray emission from an accreting X-ray binary
The signal strength of TeV gamma rays from the accreting X-ray binary Cen X-3 shows evidence for correlation with both the RXTE/ASM and the BATSE X-ray signal strengths. The time scale for the variability of the gamma rays may be similar to that of X-rays and as short as a day.
